CleverDudes Can Cook: How To Create Restaurant Style French Fries At Home
I worked as a short order cook when I was in high school. One of the things I loved to eat the most at the restaurant where I worked was the french fries. We put a potato seasoning on them that made them taste so, so good. As an adult I rediscovered the magic of seasoned french fries at some chain restaurants, such as Applebees.
Fresh, crisp, well seasoned fries make my taste buds happy.
An order of great fries is a nice treat, but on the other hand I’m not a fan of dining out. It’s also inconvenient to go to a restaurant (even for takeout) if i wanted some fries. I wanted to find a way to have my seasoned fries at home. I searched the seasoning aisle at the grocery store and couldn’t find anything. Then I searched the internet, and hit the jackpot.
I found a recipe for restaurant potato seasoning on the internet.
The recipe was simple, and I already had all the ingredients in my cupboard:
- 2 Tablespoons of coarsely ground salt
- 1 Tablespoon of coarsely ground pepper
- 1 Tablespoon of garlic salt
I mixed the three ingredients together and put them in a spice container that was empty. Then it was time to make some fries. Unfortunately, the seasoning didn’t stick to the fries, so I didn’t get much taste of the seasoning. Had I made the fries in a deep fat fryer the seasoning would have likely stuck. But for those of us trying to be a little heath conscious, we may be making our fries using a different method such baking, or as in my case, using a jet stream oven.
Since fries made in the oven, or in my jet stream oven have no oil involved, there’s nothing for the seasoning to stick to. So I put a little bit of olive oil into a spray bottle and lightly sprayed the fries. After sprinkling the seasoning on the fries, and giving them a try, I realized I had created something spectacular.
I continued eating my creation, enjoying every seasoned strand of potato grandness. I had recreated restaurant style fries using inexpensive products that many people may already have at home.
How about you, Clever Friends, do you love restaurant style seasoned fries? If so, give this a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Great stuff. My wife has been making fries at home for the last couple of years, and it took some tweaking, but she finally got a recipe that seems to offer great taste, seasoning, and just the right amount of crispiness. Next time she makes them, I’ll have to pull up this post and see how the recipe compares.
