Quick question. I’ve had thousands of direct visitors (the ones who go directly to www.cleverdude.com) in the last few days. Where did you hear about my site that made you type in my address? A magazine? Newspaper? Let me know what brought you here!

About Cleverdude

Mike founded CleverDude.com in June 2006 while working as a technical analyst in the Washington, D.C. area. A Penn State graduate, he built the site as a side project alongside a white-collar career that included earning a master’s degree and multiple promotions.

In five years he wrote nearly 1,300 articles on personal finance and life lessons drawn from his own experience. The blog grew from a hobby into a recognized early voice in the personal-finance community and generated meaningful revenue. He sold the site in 2010, continued as a guest contributor through 2015, and returned in 2023 after further career advances, paying off his home, and extensive travel.

In the same boat as Daniel, have been lurking for so long that it’s hard to remember – think it may have been through “The Simple Dollar”.

I have been checking for a long time, and I don’t use RSS or email to subscribe I just bookmark and check every weekday. So those are direct hits for you instead of coming from another site.

I guess I just don’t like getting that many emails and have not opted to start going with RSS feeds because I like to see the full blog site and article when I read the sites.

I can’t remember where it was, on the aol or msn welcome page maybe, but there was a list of extreme ways to save money, and there was a link to your blog about getting rid of the carpet and saving 2000%, lol.

@Jo, I think that’s it. It was both USNews and MSN Money. The statistic servers (Google, Statcounter and Sitemeter) are reporting funny things. They’re showing thousands as direct visitors, but then only a fraction go to the homepage which doesn’t add up. The majority are going to the carpet article, but they’re being tagged as “no referral”.

I found you through canadiancapitalist.com. I found them this Summer through a Globe and Mail review and just lately got around to checking it out (along with the other blogs he links to)

PS I typed in the URL directly because the link I’d followed was the superstar post and I wanted to bookmark the main page.

NCNblog gave you a nice writeup, so I started coming over almost daily. It’s faster for me to type in “cle” in Internet Explorer or Mozilla and pull up my recently visited sites. I’m enjoying your perspective.
