About Cleverdude

Mike founded CleverDude.com in June 2006 while working as a technical analyst in the Washington, D.C. area. A Penn State graduate, he built the site as a side project alongside a white-collar career that included earning a master’s degree and multiple promotions.

In five years he wrote nearly 1,300 articles on personal finance and life lessons drawn from his own experience. The blog grew from a hobby into a recognized early voice in the personal-finance community and generated meaningful revenue. He sold the site in 2010, continued as a guest contributor through 2015, and returned in 2023 after further career advances, paying off his home, and extensive travel.

Wow! Funny that you posted this, because I was just considering opening up an ING Savings! I think I’ll definitely take advantage of this. Who doesn’t love free money?

So, if you need more links, you should get them from your readers, like me for example! Let me know and I could send you some.

@Laura, I did previously get them from readers, but I didn’t post them for a while. I’ll keep you on the list though.

I recently did this in the UK from a friend referral. I was rather skeptical, but I got my opening documents through today and there it is! “£25 Referral Bonus” on my statement!

    ING Rocks.

Hey Clever Dude! I’m just curious, I clicked on the referral link and everything, opened my ING account with $250 (and had $25 from my paycheck go into the account) and I still haven’t received my $25 Referral Bonus. Do you know how long it takes to see this in the account? It’s been almost 3 weeks for me.

@BankGal, you should have gotten the bonus if you didn’t already have an ING account open and if you clicked from my ing-referrals page (the one that specifically says you’ll get a $25 bonus).
