How to Make Your Home’s Water Taste Better Without Breaking the Bank

Sometimes tap water doesn’t taste the best. Unfortunately, it isn’t always in our budget to invest in a heavy-duty water filter for our home or apartment. The good news is that there are still a few key ways you can improve the taste of your water without breaking the bank. Here are a few key ways you can get your home’s tap water tasting better and cleaner.

Make Sure Your Pipes Are in Good Condition

If your home’s water has a metallic flavor or you’ve noticed that your home has hard water, there’s a chance that the problem with your water is actually coming from your pipes. Plumbing issues are more common than you think. In fact, approximately one out of every 10 homes in the U.S. has a leak in their plumbing system. Common plumbing issues that can cause changes in tap water flavor include rusting and mineral build-up. Consider contacting your local plumbing company to come to take a look at your pipes. They may be able to provide you with a budget-friendly solution.

Avoid Using Chemicals in Your Yard

Yardwork may be the absolute last thing on your mind when it comes to the flavor of your tap water. However, a major source of local water pollution is actually stormwater runoff. That means when you use chemicals in your yard to treat weeds and the like, those chemicals are soaking into the soil of your yard. Those chemicals don’t stay there. When it rains, the water that your yard’s soil doesn’t soak up will make its way into the local storm drains. That said, be sure that you’re using all-natural products in your yard to help get rid of unwanted weeds.

Use a Small-Scale Water Filter

Only approximately 3% of the Earth’s water is fresh water, and you rely on that fresh water for a variety of things from showering to doing dishes to hydrating. If your water is safe, but the flavor isn’t the best, consider using a small-scale water filter in your kitchen or bathroom. While a whole-home water filter would be ideal, it isn’t always financially feasible. With a small-scale water filter on your faucets, you can enjoy the fresh taste of clean water without breaking your budget.

You don’t need to spend a fortune to make your home’s tap water taste better. Sometimes it’s just a matter of keeping your pipes in great shape, using natural products, and using a smaller-scale water filter. Try out these tips to improve your tap water today!
