How to Improve Your Home’s Curb Appeal On a Budget This Summer

This summer offers a great opportunity to improve the curb appeal of your home without breaking the bank. To help give you some ideas on great projects, here are five simple, budget-friendly ways to improve your home’s curb appeal.

1. Remove Problematic Trees

Summer storms can wreak havoc on homes with overhanging tree limbs. The National Storm Damage Center even estimates that falling trees cause over $1 billion in damages every single year. If your home has an overhanging tree, now is the time to get it taken care of, especially if it is deceased or drying. In some cases, you may not even have to remove the whole tree and can instead have problematic limbs removed. This is much less expensive than the repairs you might be facing if a heavy limb or tree falls into your home.

This can also help improve the curb appeal of your home, especially if your trees are dying or dead. In either event, overhanging trees can also litter your yard with leaves and sticks, which can make upkeep more difficult.

2. Have Your Roof Inspected or Repaired

While you might not think of your roof and gutters unless something goes wrong, summer is a great time to get inspections and repairs conducted. Consider having your roof and gutters cleaned out to make them look even better. If you notice any damage to your gutters, make sure to have them replaced with high-quality ones seen on GutterSupply. During the summer and through the winter, your roof as well as your gutters can take a lot of abuse, making yearly inspections important to mitigate potential damage.

If your roof is getting old — single roofs only last about 13 years — it may also be time to ask a roofing professional about getting a replacement. Old roofs can often look worn out and dull, taking away from your home’s curb appeal. While you might not be able to replace it this year, you can save up and get it done next year with more durable and beautifying materials.

3. Fix Up Your Windows

Windows can also help improve curb appeal, and they don’t even need to be replaced to help improve the appearance. Even simply changing your blinds or drapes can help make the inside and outside look better. Aluminum blinds, for instance, are some of the longest-lasting window treatments, and they are often available for all window sizes. Changing your blinds can also help block out unwanted prying eyes, and instead, give outsiders something more pleasant to look in on.

4. Plant Native Flowers

Adding some flowers to your landscaping can be another easy way to boost curb appeal without being too high maintenance or expensive. If you invest in local plant species, you can expect less upkeep, as they will already be acclimated to the climate and weather. Local flowers can also benefit bees and butterflies that often depend on native flora. Additionally, many flowers and plants are budget-friendly to buy and relatively easy to plant on your own!

5. Clean the Exterior of Your Home

Lastly, we have possibly the easiest and most budget-friendly tip on the list. Washing the exterior of your home can help give it a fresh look, especially if your siding has a lot of dirt buildup. All you need for this is an easy-to-buy hose attachment and some free time. If your home’s exterior has never been washed, this can definitely make a huge difference when it comes to curb appeal.

This summer is a great opportunity to get started on beautifying the exterior of your home, and in many cases, you don’t need to break the bank to do it. If you’re looking for easy and inexpensive ways to improve the curb appeal of your home, consider these five tips and which ones would benefit you and your home the most!
