How to Get a Graphics Card in 2022

How to Get a Graphics Card in 2022

Personal computers are awesome. There are so many things you can do with a good PC such as working from home, editing home videos, playing video games, watching 4k movies, or even mining cryptocurrency. With so many useful applications and the stress of the global pandemic on the supply chain, computer components are becoming harder and harder to come by. If you’re looking to build a new PC or upgrade your current system, here are the best ways to get a graphics card in 2022.

Best Buy

Best Buy is still a tried-and-true nerd resource for all things electronics. Whether you’re looking for a new graphics card, the latest OLED TVs, or an RGB keyboard to spice up your workday, Best Buy normally has what you’re looking for.

Best Buy is a great place to get graphics cards because they offer MSRP pricing and normally have restocks every other week. So, don’t worry if they don’t have the exact GPU you’re looking for at the moment. Chances are, they will have some in a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, sometimes it can be difficult to find out exactly when your local Best Buy will have the particular graphics card you want. When retail stores restock depends on where you live and Best Buy’s supply schedule.

Online restock is your best bet on getting a card but you have to be quick. Cryptocurrency miners and scalpers watch the website like hawks. Seriously, they watch like hawks with bots that automatically buy every GPU the website allows as soon as the “add to cart” button goes live.

Newegg Shuffle

You have to be very careful when purchasing highly sought-after electronics on the internet. If you’re new to the vast sea of scum that is the technology hardware space, you might not know which companies are trustworthy.

Newegg.com is an amazing resource for anyone interested in technology but, most importantly, interested in computer components. On Newegg, you can buy every part you need to build a personal computer like motherboards, CPUs, computer cases, and the crown jewel of any PC, the graphics card.

If you’re looking for a new graphics card the “Newegg Shuffle” is definitely something you should check out. What makes Newegg’s shuffle different from other online ques is that the winner of the raffle is chosen at random. With this method, it doesn’t matter if 10,000 people signed up before you did. Every time the website does a drawing you have a shot at a graphics card.

The only real drawback to Newegg is that the price of products can fluctuate wildly with consumer demand. If you are willing to pay the extra cash, throw your hat in the Newegg shuffle and see what you get. It is important to note that, even if you enter the shuffle and are offered a graphics card, you’re under no obligation to purchase the card. However, don’t think about it too long because the offers are timed and they will give it to someone else.

What I Would Do

Best Buy and Newegg are certainly not your only options when it comes to finding graphics cards but they are two of the most reliable. I personally helped a friend of mine use the Newegg shuffle to find a graphics card for his new PC build. My friend was offered an Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti in less than a week.

Despite all my encouragement to “DO IT!,” in the end, he decided it was too much money for his taste and he is going to wait for the release of the desktop 3050 Ti to drop later this year. The good news for me is that means my graphics card will still be more powerful than his and all gamers know frames wins games.
