5 Most Common Plumbing Problems

The plumbing infrastructure of a home is an essential function of the water distribution, and when it gets broken, fixing it can be complicated. Click miamitile.com/plumbing/ to see why it recommends hiring a professional plumber to fix any leakage, deteriorating pipes, or clogged drains to restore them to proper working order. We often don’t realize how much we rely on our house’s plumbing until something breaks and needs repairs.

Throughout homeownership, it’s expected for some plumbing issues to occur, like a dripping faucet, a slow drain, or an inefficient water heater. Some of these problems can be fixed on your own with a few simple DIY guides that can be found online; however, for more complex issues, it’s best to leave it to the professionals. Here are the five most common plumbing problems homeowners experience around the house.

Clogged Drains

A clogged drain can be a consistent annoyance when the water in the sink or the shower doesn’t go down fast enough. Clogged drains are usually a result of a blockage occurring in the drainage pipes. For example, in a shower, hair that enters the drain can accumulate over time and clog the pipes. A kitchen sink can also be clogged when food residue or cooking oil enters the pipes and accumulates, resulting in slow water drainage.

Leaky Showerheads/Faucets

Leaking showerheads and faucets are very common plumbing problems that homeowners experience and, if left unfixed, can raise the cost of your water bill significantly. A constantly dripping faucet or showerhead is more of a nuisance than a plumbing emergency, but those drips can quickly add up. These issues usually occur when the washer on the seal on the tap gets damaged (which can include tearing, dislodging, or stiffening).

Running Toilet/Clogged Toilet

Running toilet water is another common occurrence that can raise the water bill if left unchecked. Most individuals try to push the handle up and down to see if the water will stop, but a running toilet is usually because of an old flapper that needs replacement. When flappers get old, they don’t seal the way they should, allowing water to pass constantly from the toilet tank into the bowl. In addition, to ensure the proper function of your toilet at home, refrain from flushing down toilet paper or objects that can result in a blockage.

Low Water Pressure

Not getting enough water flow from the kitchen faucet, garden hose, or showerhead is a plumbing problem many people want to get fixed. These are essential to performing daily tasks like taking a shower, washing your hands, or watering the plants. Low water pressure could be that the faucet aerators are clogged, but it could also be a more complex issue where the help of a professional plumber may be needed.

Leaky Pipes

Pipes can corrode and deteriorate over time, resulting in leaks that can cause damage to wooden floors, leaving puddles of water. If you notice your pipes leaking, try not to use your sink as often and only as necessary, and in the meantime, use a bucket to catch the drips coming from the pipes until a plumber arrives to give you a hand. Leaks usually occur at the joints of a water distribution system, which must be examined, fixed, or replaced.
