Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.

I love #2. I think that makes a lot of sense, and is actually something the government could really get behind. They could even limit the deduction to, say, the first $500 or $1000 to discourage abuse of the deduction. I also agree with #5, although I don't know how you can practically put it into practice. As a society, we simply need a stronger sense of personal responsibility.

Social programs need a reform this is true. Anytime someone with children or a family is working towards a valuable 4 year degree (within a reasonable amount of time) the welfare and aid they are getting is a good investment in America.

I completely agree with all your points. Lack of personal responsibility has gotten us into this mess and it's the only way to improve the situation. I mean personal responsibility of everyone: Government, businesses, people... everyone.

I'm pleased to read that we think so much alike on the education aspect of this problem. I actually intend to speak to my Congressman about making education a component of any future legislation dealing with the existing crisis.
