It’s simply a matter of freedom of choice. People can choose to take the elevator instead of the stairs for any reason, or for no reason. Even if it infringes on your time there is nothing you can do about it (except get mad) because it is personal freedom. You lost your entitlement as far as your time is concerned the minute you stepped out of your house into public.
Americans say they value freedom but most only value their own freedom. You can’t have personal freedom without everyone else having personal freedom as well, and sometimes someone else’s personal freedom upsets your apple cart.

“I take the elevator down 6 floors to save time, but waiting at an elevator for 30 seconds when the stairs are right there is just lazy and wasteful.

For example, we have a very long hallway and it takes 2 minutes to walk down it. I saw a girl at the other end waiting for the elevators. She was jumping around to waste time, which shows her knees are fine. She was wearing athletic shoes, which indicates she was prepared for walking that day. She got on the elevator, as did I, and the went down 2 floors. She seriously waited 2.5 minutes for something that would have taken 30 seconds had she taken the stairs. There’s no need for it. It’s just lazy and wasteful.”

Maybe you’re lazy too. Why don’t you just take the stairs instead of harassing other people who are slowing you down. That’s life. Things get in your way. The attitude of finding fault with others makes things worse for everyone. It ripples out. It’s mean.

Instead you should take a moment to figure out how to remain calm in the face of life’s difficulties. Allow for more time when leaving your office. Don’t take your aggravation of not having enough time out on other people.

Maybe I’m doing the same thing you did, in judging you. So perhaps I’m just as wrong as you (my opinion).

I felt I had to speak out though and point out to you how that seemingly small glare can add unnecessary negativity into the world. And it gets passed on (not necessarily your fault), but why not try to live and let live. No one is hurting you.

I’d like to see you save face Mr. Dude. I have nothing against you. I just hope that this makes people think twice about adding to the nastiness out there.

Here’s my apology. I’m sorry I got angry with you. I don’t expect an apology. I just hope I made a difference for you going forward.

Ridiculous. Men. You know what, I can’t go up or down stairs in the heels that I have to wear to work to look “professional.” I hate walking in them at all, actually. And you know what, I really don’t want to rip my hose. But you didn’t think of that, did you? Clever dude, if you had kids, or heck, took care of a kid for an afternoon you would not let such a stupid problem upset you.
