Excellent post. While normally even-keel, there are those days (or even weeks) where the stress levels just tip a person over. This week is definetly one of mine.

I think it was great that you identified what your areas of stress are. I need to do the same.

Last, I read your post on self-sufficiency and found it quite engaging. I'll be looking into that once this quarter ends.

I am really happy to know that people are writing these things and guiding others. I am really thankful to you as even I got some ways to become stress free.
I believe what really matters is to chose between what do you want?
1) Happy, peaceful and stress free life
or
2) Life full of worries and problems leading to stress.
The choice is always yours and there are lot of people, lot of material and lot of ways to live happy life.
This article is offering you a way to live happily.
Thanks dear!

Sean, great idea!

However, I don't think there's a single time in our lives when we're not stressed. As babies, we cry and cry because we're hungry, cold, sick, etc. As toddlers, we're learning about the world and all the good AND bad things that happen (actually, this might be the least stressful time in our life). While in grade school, we're meeting new friends, dealing with authority (teachers), and home life.

In high school, we hit puberty and are worrying about dating. In college, we're still worrying about dating and school, but now we're on our own and need to worry about life after school. After college, we worry about, well, the real world. For me, it's still school and home life, but now also a career and a wife, and for many, kids as well. And the cycle continues.

And of course there's old age when we worry about our health, losing our friends, and dealing with people moving on with their lives without us.

Man, life sure is depressing and stressful!

I'm going to print this out and hand them out to a few of my coworkers! You would think college students would be more relaxed, but these people are on edge so often. :P

UltraRob: Over the last couple years, my blood pressure has actually dropped although my stress levels have risen. I used to be about 120/80, but now I'm around 105-110/65-70. I still eat at buffets once every one or two weeks; I eat out for lunch most days (salty, fatty foods) and I haven't really exercised since the marathon last year. I don't quite understand what that means, but no one seems concerned, so I'm not.

I drives me crazy when my eye lid starts twitching. It's always because of stress and a twitching eye lid just adds to the stress. I'm doing a little better but I normally have blood pressure on the low side but this spring and summer my doctor was getting pretty concerned about my high blood pressure. Although I have several things that add stress, the majority of it is my job. I love the kind of work but the project I'm on is out of control and there's not a lot I can do about it.

As I was reading this, I thought "Ooh, unclench my toes for a start."

Stress has a nasty way of sneaking up on us. Your list for handling it looks excellent.
