From my experience, I also recommend reviewing each bill - and I now also check the charges for a visit before I leave the doctor's office, if it is at all possible! (Sometimes it actually is.) Her advice is to call the insurance company and also the doctor's office to clear things up ASAP. My personal experience with insurance support for my various insurances (dental, health, vision) has been pleasant. I've had to make follow-up calls, but every time the representative was nice and completely helpful. Maybe my company just has great plans, but I think in general insurance support reps are just a better bunch of people than, say, credit card customer service reps. It doesn't hurt at all to call. I switched from a 100% plan last year to an 80% plan this year. I will be sure to review all of my bills. Like you, when I had the 100% plan, I never looked at the billing breakdown either.
