Good post for new or upcoming grads to read! Sometimes from the youth side of things it looks like everyone older has this great masterplan they are following and you are just floating aimlessly. Its just as often the young have a plan they just don’t realize it!

Have a little more faith.. in yourself or god or whatever you believe in.

I too have had problems in the past with interviews gone wrong, and this article really hit close to home. I am now a firm believer in God, and how he works in very mysterious ways. One door closed means another door opened, and perhaps more moolah in it for me in the end !

Thanks for such a fantastic post! I, too, am struggling with my personal and occupational identity. I’m coming up on my last semester in undergraduate business school, and I’m beginning to feel the pressures of needing a job. Needless to say, I know how it feels to be rejected when you feel that you’ll FOR SURE be good enough. Thanks for the words of inspiration.

Additionally, I believe in luck, but mostly I DO believe that God has His hand in everything we do. I’m sure you were supposed to get that job in D.C. (and not at Ford) for a very particular reason. It’s wonderful the places He will lead us in life if we trust Him. That’s what I plan to do in my personal mission. Thanks for the encouragement!!

In early 2001, I got a second interview with a major bank here in NYC – I’d been trying for two years to get into the financial sector. In a massively stupid move related to untreated depression, 100 lbs of excess weight, a manipulative boyfriend and a complete absence of self-confidence, I cancelled it. I kicked myself for months afterwards…until 9/11. The bank was in the World Trade Center. Had I gotten the job…

Maybe irony but you were “lucky” Ford didn’t hired you! With the state that those automakers are in, I’m not sure that it was a good place to be

I love the message of this post. So many people (mostly those who are not prosperous) have convinced themselves that all prosperity flows from luck. This leads to money envy and a desire to tax the heck out of prosperity as a form of payback. The reality is that you and others have earned every penny of your prosperity. Thanks for saying it.
