Wow, powerful man. A proud person is usually cut down to size after some traumatic or unfortunate event that hits them hard. I recall how I used to have “more ego” as a younger person, but I feel that maturity, time, experience and a whole lot of trials have really mellowed me out.

I can see people often substitute confidence and integrity with ego and pride.
I see it all the time in us men. It’s difficult to appear wrong because I think it says to the ego that we’re weak.
Having the confidence to know that you make mistakes and are able to overcome or improve, is much more empowering than living with a front to maintain your “pride”.

Great post. Easy to say hard to do. I think it comes with age. The more experiences you have and the more set-backs/successes you have allows you to learn how to take your failures in stride and not dwell on them but instead take a more analytical approach where you can actually learn from them. You are spot on when you say that people will respect you more when you show that you are not perfect.
