i have a 2007 jetta and my only problem is that sometimes the turn signals will stick on for a few seconds. the mileage could also be better, but other then that i LOVE this car.

I had to sue VW to get out of my GTI…Lemon Law case. I know a lot of people love their VW’s, but I cannot fathom buying one again.

I have an ’01 Jetta here in the US. I love it!
Gas mileage could be a tad better, but it also needs a tune up.

I’ve only owned VW’s. My first car was a Golf II (1989, still in my mom’s garage).

Both were bought used by the way. Never found a good reason to buy new.

My brother has an ’06 Jetta (or is it ’05? I can’t remember when he bought it), with a TDI engine. The mpg is somewhere around 50. He bought it new (which is a little perplexing, as he’s normally the most frugal person I know–hence the good gas milage in his car).

Napolux: While on a trip to Ireland 5 years ago, a friend and I rented a Fiat Seicento. Two 200+ lb guys in a car smaller than the new Mini Cooper made for quite a few laughs from the locals. As for Smart cars, we got them in the states already. A specialty dealer down the street converts them for US use and charges a $10k premium. BTC: Yes, it still has that rubber coating, which makes for a very nice touch. However, our 04 Passat also had this coating, and it was a pain to clean without the paper towel shredding or the liquid not filling all the indentations.

I have a 2004 Jetta. The 05 Jetta is identical to the 07, so you might want to look at buying used. It will also give you a good idea of how well the car holds up. Do they still have that rubber coating on all the interior parts? If so, pass. Our vehicle only a couple years old and practically the whole interior is peeling off. This is in a garage kept pampered car! Compare this to my 8 year old Jeep whose plastic/vinyl interior panels look flawless. This is something common, I hear, and VW doesn’t consider it a defective warranty issue. I won’t be buying another VW, personally.

Vents on the 04 are lousy also.

What you call “a compact car” in the USA is a big car here in europe (VW is from Germany).

I was wondering how an american or a canadian guy will feel to sit inside a Fiat Punto or a Fiat 500 or in a Smart.

Hummers and other big SUVs are rather unusual here…
