Posted by Clever Dude | April 18, 2007 .

I got this email offer from Citibank today and might just take them up on the offer:

As a Citi cardmember, you are eligible for this special offer.

Introducing the new Citibank ultimate savings account
with a 4.65% APY*.

Plus get $50 when you open the account by 5/15/07.**

Click here to Apply Now!

Here are a few great benefits of the Citibank ultimate savings account:

* FDIC-insured
* No monthly fees†
* No minimum balance
* No checking required

Click here to Learn More.

To apply by phone, call 1-877-695-9400 and mention code: CYAB

This offer is not available at Citibank Financial Centers.

*Annual Percentage Yield (APY) is accurate as of 3/27/2007 and is subject to change without notice. The rate will apply only to accounts opened through citibank.com or by phone, and may change after the account is opened. Fees may reduce earnings.

**$50 offer is only available for first-time Citibank deposit account customers, and will be paid only once to any individual. Persons who currently have or at any time have had a deposit account at Citibank (or any of its predecessor banks) are not eligible. To receive this offer you must apply for and open a new Ultimate Savings Account by 5/15/2007. $50 will be credited to your Ultimate Savings Account within 90 days from the end of the statement period in which your account was opened. Accounts must be in good standing at the time of the $50 credit.

All accounts are subject to approval. Customer must be a citizen or resident alien of the United States (U.S.) with a valid U.S. taxpayer identification number. The amount of any bonus payment will be reported to the IRS as interest earned in the year credited. Persons under 18 years of age are not eligible. Offer may be modified or withdrawn at any time without notice and is not transferable.

† When held as a stand-alone account.

Deposits are subject to Citibank’s standard funds availability schedule.

Not the best APR among online banks, but it’s hard to pass up an easy $50 (for new accounts only). Without going through the application, I couldn’t find any statement indicating a minimum deposit required. Can anyone comment on the required minimum deposit amount for this account or offer?

    Clever Dude, I don’t see anything about a minimum deposit, but in the past Citibank has always required you to open an online checking account at the same time.

    I just opened a savings account using this promo. I opened with $25. It didn’t say anything about a minimum initial deposit.

    Does opening and closing multiple accounts affect your credit score?

  5. Clever Dude April 18, 2007 8:56 pm

    Since these are not credit accounts, then no. Bank accounts do not affect your credit score.

    Now if you have 50 bank accounts open, you may have to answer to the FBI…

    I should clarify that as long as the bank doesn’t run a credit report on you, then opening a bank account won’t affect your score. Closing the account would not affect your score, unless it’s with a sleazy bank.

    Citi has had several bonus offers. Since this is the Ultimate Savings account and not the e-Savings account you don’t need to open a checking account. For the person who was wanting to know where to find these deals,visit my blog that is what it is all about.

    Not bad, but most banks in my area will give $200 if you open a checking account.

    This account is open to anyone; it is on Citi main web page. Here’s a link to the specific page for the account:

    http://direct.citibank.com/CBOL/07/usa/crosssell/default.htm?Promo_ID=CY32&BTData=402107A736B61745C564343B1BEB1A8AD9A968490FEF9F5E5EAC5C2DE9181872&BT_TRF=516140&ProspectID=1C51A93381774D3FA578484C7BA14F63

    There are no minimums, no checking account required, and no monthly fees (as long as its a stand-alone account).

    Hope this helps.
