Added “Top Commentators” Plugin - Start Commenting!

Posted by Clever Dude | February 17, 2007 .

Thanks to Nickel for alerting me to the existence of the “Top Commentators” WordPress plugin available at pfadvice.com. You can see this plugin on the right sidebar (at the bottom for now).

I’ve added this plugin to encourage more comments on my posts. However, I am still utilizing Spam Karma 2 and my own judgement on the validity of a comment, so don’t try to “boost your score”.

What’s in this for you?
If you stay within the top 5 commentators on my site, you instantly get a link on all my pages. The plugin shows up on my right sidebar, so your site benefits.

What are the rules?
1. Don’t spam. For example, don’t just post something simple like “I agree”. It has to be a substantive comment. It may pass Spam Karma, but it might not pass me.

2. The counting resets each month. That means the top 5 commentators will be wiped out on the 1st of each month and the counting begins again.

3. If you’re getting this “free” link on my homepage, think about adding a link to Clever Dude in your own blogroll if you haven’t already.

That’s it! Now start commentatoring!

Ah I was wondering what that linkback was lol. Not like I have a blogroll or anything hehe. Oh I’m number two, let me fix that hehe.

I wonder what it will do when I start using my new handle? Will it count me as 5 (using my email addy as an id) or count me as another person for a different name?

If you use a new handle, then it would count it differently. However, be careful about trying to “spam” just to stay at the top :)

You can find most wordpress plugins here:
    http://wp-plugins.net/

The top commentator plugin can be found through the link in the article. If you use Wordpress for your site, then you just FTP the plugin code to your site under wp-content/plugins and activate it. You may want to go into the code to edit the refresh rate for the top commentators (I set it for every 30 days). There’s quite a few options you can set (like blocking certain users like your own account from showing up).
